Online Dating Statistics and Facts

Here’s yet another article with some online dating statistics and facts.  These have been accumulated through browsing around the web and I’m not really sure if they hold much value to you.  I just happen to find the information quite interesting.

These online dating statistics and facts are a bit random and although I’ve tried to find a cohesive method to tie them altogether nothing’s really come to mind.  Because of this I’ve decided to throw them out there and I’ll let you try to tie them together as you see put.

Online Dating Statistics and FactsThe online dating statistics and facts have been taken from various sources but I didn’t feel the need to piece together an annotated bibliography like you would be forced to do when citing references for a research paper.  If you’re writing such a paper I suggest you steer clear of the online dating statistics and facts I’m listing below and find a more scientific website to swipe them from.

Interesting Online Dating Statistics and Facts

  • Women who post a profile picture receive twice as much feedback (emails, chat responses) as those who don’t.
  • Over 90% of single parents would prefer to date other single parents.
  • According to the United States Census Bureau, there are close to 96 million single people in the United States. Of those, 51 million are female and only 45 million are male.
  • Psychologists from the University of Pennsylvania studies over 10,000 speed daters and found that people decide whether or not someone else is attractive within 3 seconds of seeing them.  Not much time to make that first impression.
  • Research shows that remembering information about someone and finding a way to work that information into conversation with them as highly flattering and endearing to the person you are targeting.
  • When a man approaches a woman for the first time, research has shown that the woman will base her initial impression on him as follows: 55% on his physical appearance and body language, 38% on his style of speech and speaking patterns, and only 7% on what he actually says.  It’s not a case of what it is you have to say but the way in which you say it.  Style over substance.
  • Research shows that if a woman doesn’t return a call after two messages then she is not interested.
  • If a woman offers to pay for everything, research shows she is not interested in her date.
  • Close to 30% of Americans have sex on the first date.
  • On average, couples have sex after their sixth date.
  • Over 40% of online daters admit to breaking up with someone via email.
  • Match.com claims that over 130 million winks are passed between their members each year.
  • eHarmony boasts that over 230 of their members per day marry.
  • Almost 50% of US singles have not had a date in over 18 months.

As I mentioned in advanced these are some random online dating statistics and facts.  These facts give you some insight into the average US single and what some of their thoughts and expectations are regarding relationships. I found a few of them to be quite eye opening.

I hope you found these online dating statistics and facts interesting.  I love finding as much information about online dating as I can and if you’re interested in seeing more I’ve written a post on online dating statistics that goes even more in depth. ~Mac

Dating Blog Topics

One thing I struggle with from time to time with this blog is finding dating blog topics that are of interest to all singles.  I feel like I occasionally cover ground that has previously been covered and the last thing I want to do is bore you with repetitive posts.

Finding the best dating blog topics to write about is not always a simple task.  I’ve made a mini resolution for the year 2012 to post with regularity for my readers.  I would love to tell you that I’m going to post every day of the year, but I don’t know if that’s something I can realistically make happen. Heck, I don’t even look at a computer on most weekends. I do want to try and get out approximately five posts per week.  It will be tough but it’s a goal I’m going to shoot for.

Dating Blog TopicsIf you have some dating blog topics you would like me to address, please hit the contact page on this blog and let me know what you are thinking.  This blog moves off of reader requests and if I’m able to address your topic then I will be more than happy to do so. Don’t be bashful, in most cases I’ll be able to slap something together based on my experiences.

From time to time I share recent news stories that are relevant to the industry but I get mixed messages about whether or not these are dating blog topics of interest for my readers.  I think it’s important to share some of that information but many of you have told me it’s more important for me to focus on the “how to” information of finding love online.

I think moving forward I will continue to use the blend of news and “how to” information for my daily dating blog topics.  This is the time of the year (following New Year’s) when dating sites see a surge of new members who have made the resolution to make a change in their lives. In most cases they’re tired of living alone and want to find someone to share their lives with.

For the next month or so, most of the dating blog topics I’ll be covering are to help those people looking to get started.  There’s plenty of information on this blog to help those newcomers out and I want to make it easy for them to find it.  Online dating is not an easy endeavor to get started but once you get properly set up, it becomes a breeze.

We’ve tried to make it easy for first time visitors to the blog and we’ve got two banners on the side column which direct visitors to our two most popular dating blog topics, our internet dating guide which walks you through all of the steps to getting your profile set up as well as our online dating guide which highlights the best dating services you can use to meet other singles.

Hopefully you had a great start to 2012.  I’m looking forward to a great year this coming year and I’m hoping to have plenty of interesting and thought provoking dating blog topics to share with you throughout the course of the year.  Thanks again for visiting and we hope to keep hearing from you. ~Mac
