I found an interesting article today in the Times of India which gives an interesting batch of online dating statistics. It details a study put together by an internet dating site and it details some of their findings. Here’s a quick transcript from the site:
“a new UK study conducted by an online dating website reveals that 84 per cent of people in the UK prefer meeting new people online, out of which one in three singles admit that they would rather meet a perspective partner on the internet. In contrast, only one in six people prefer to meet in bars and at parties, while one in 12 want to meet at night clubs.”
I think the term prefer in the first statistic might be the wrong word to use in that first sentence. I think “enjoy”, ”appreciate”, or “are comfortable” are probably better words to use. The next statistic reiterates that point because it says that one in three would rather meet a perspective partner online. Stat two is a better use of the term PREFER.
As I’ve documented before, there is a lot more safety meeting someone online than in a bar or night club. Bars/Parties/Night Clubs are a tough place to gauge someone’s personality. In many cases, you may have had a drink or two too many and that could impair your judgement on their personality.
Meeting someone online is great because it gives you a chance to get to know their personality and the things that make them tick. There’s a lot less pressure chatting online with someone new than there is sitting with them face to face when you first meet them. You can take your time to think out your response before hitting the send button from your computer.
I’m a huge fan of internet dating but I also enjoy meeting people face to face. Let’s not discount that meeting someone new out of the blue is also a neat little thing to enjoy.
