Mobile Dating On The Rise

As society becomes more and more dependent on their cell phones (and more specifically their smart phones) we are becoming more accustomed to using our phones for everything.  I happened to find an interesting article on Snap Interactive’s Blog which details how more and more people prefer using an app on their phone to find other singles as opposed to using their computer.

The survey was produced by pulling information from over 50,000 singles that use AreYouInterested.com’s iPhone app, which is one of the top 5 grossing apps in the United States in the Itunes app store.

Some of the findings are quite interesting and add to the various online dating statistics that are out on the market.

  • The most active online cities for mobile dating?  New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Melbourne, and London.
  • 80% of the people surveyed preferred using their mobile dating app as opposed to logging in on their computer.
  • Over 600 online dating profiles get viewed every minute.
  • The average single looks at over 20 different profiles per day.
  • Singles are over 60% more likely to hook up using a mobile dating app as opposed to using their desktop or laptop.
  • Almost 50% of AreYouInterested’s members are between the ages of 18 and 25.
  • AreYouInterested’s members send on average 5 messages to other singles per day, 9 conversations are started each minute, and close to 50% of registered members have an interaction with at least three other singles daily.

I haven’t looked into mobile apps as a source of online dating but it appears that this trend will continue to rise because it is catered to the younger generation who uses their phones for everything.  It fits perfectly with the younger members of society who are completely dependent on text message and prefer communicating through that medium.  It doesn’t appear that this trend will slow down as the next batch of teenage singles fall into that demographic moving forward.

Interesting stuff,

Mac
