The first rash of baby boomers is hitting 65 this year and many of them are looking online to find compatible mates. These online dating seniors have brought with them a different set of values in what they’re looking for compared to younger singles.
The biggest difference is that many seniors are not interested in getting married (again). They may be widowed or divorced and they’re not looking for someone to tie the knot with. In most cases these online dating seniors are looking for someone as a companion to spend time with.
Most of these online dating seniors are deeply entrenched in their ways. They already have established families (children, grandchildren, etc.) and their biggest concern is that they don’t want to be alone and they’re looking for someone whose company they enjoy. They don’t want to compromise their values and they’re very aware of what they like and dislike.
The things these online dating seniors are looking for are unique compared to their younger counterparts. I found an interesting article which lists 8 traits as senior specific:
- Independence
- Intelligence
- Affectionate
- purpose or goal driven
- Healthy
- Religious or spirituality
- Political Beliefs
- Status (occupation, finances, possessions, etc.)
One other attribute of online dating seniors is how they address physical appearance. Their younger counterparts highlight looks or physical appearance when it’s to their benefit.
Online dating seniors are also focused on physical appearance but it tends to play more into their health or the business of their lifestyle. They like to portray themselves as active or highlight their ability to get out and about. They are intent on portraying how their young at heart and in spirit. The last thing they want to portray is they sit around the house doing very little.
